RCO vs RPO: Understanding the Difference

The Confusion

RCO and RPO are distinct obligations that apply to different entities with different fulfilment mechanisms.

Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO)

RCO applies specifically to Open Access consumers. A defined percentage of consumption must come from renewable sources via own renewable, green PPAs, or REC purchases.

Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO)

RPO is broader. It mandates a percentage of total consumption from renewables, split into Solar and Non-Solar categories.
